Booked two nights in Friesland last weekend with hopes of capturing the Short-eared Owl. I was fortunate to spot a female on Friday evening, though regrettably, I could not get a nice photo of her. Nonetheless, it felt like a promising start.
Ventured out again on Saturday morning, only to find no sign of the owl, just a kestrel. It seems these are quite common in the region.
Unfortunately, I discovered that a screw had punctured one tire of my car. The risk of driving down many farm roads in search of the owl. Luckily it was fixed in no time, allowing me to continue my search.
In the afternoon despite the stormy weather, much to my surprise, a male owl appeared, perching on a nearby pole. After capturing a few shots, it resumed its hunt for prey.
Unfortunately, the remainder of the weekend yielded few owl sightings up close, with one spotted at a safe distance in the middle of a field. However, I did have the pleasure of observing numerous buzzards, falcons, and a Western marsh harrier.
All in all, it was a successful weekend!
